This is a fine example of knowing your response area and knowing the hazards that lurk inside our buildings. Many times, over and over again, residental renovations are made without any knowledge until it is too late.

I like the pic showing the decorative stars on the exterior when could be nothing more than aesthetics or potentially mortar ties for reinforcement. Just another thought when conducting a size-up on an occupancy.

    Good-eye !!

I used to work in B-more and have seen this place.
The renovation on the 2nd and 3rd floor is that “Chubbies” is a strip joint. couldn’t tell you what is on those floors, but the stars are definitely NOT decorative. Those buildings are old and the end of the groups are always the weak spot in these buildings.

All of the windows are covered over with plywood and drywall over the wood on the inside this building. The third floor is dressing rooms, storage and a lot of junk. The second floor is VIP dance rooms. Had a small room & contents fire in the Delta exposure to this building,it was very hard to move the trapped smoke out of this structure.

And who in Baltimore approved this death trap?

We should know now, before the fire, so the press can interview the owners

Great observation Scott. Was about to post the same info. Whenever I see those stars I immediately think the place is gonna come crashing down on us. I’ve seen a number of these “killer conversions.” Most converted upper floors for storage. Being the occupancy that this example it, I am quite surprised that it isnt being “inspected” more frequently. In particular, every pay day. : )

Great post! We have quite a few of these structures here in Charleston. They are extremely dangerous for us, and how city leaders can allow these death traps is beyond comprehension. Excellent job to all of you for getting out there, learning your district hazards, and training to stay alive. Kudos to BFD for getting this information to us all. God Bless.

We’re missing the real point here guys…that dude said it’s a strip joint! I think a vententersearch field trip is in order so we can ALL make our own judgements. I dont think we’re being very fair to this building and we owe it to ourselves to gather all the facts. Who’s with me? In the name of science!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if the ‘stars’ will be strategically placed??

Let’s hope not! There should probably be a close inspection for any other potential alterations or enhancements, if you get my drift.

I was the one that posted the pictures. Just recieved an email from our code department in the city. They are following up with the issue, because it was illegal work that was done.
