Maekin Healy from Santa Clara (CA) Fire Department submitted this great use of materials, with original credit going to the USAR crews from San Jose Fire Department. He stated having significant turnover in recent years; with so many rookie firefighters diving into the Truck & Rescue company niches, they’ve found these props to be very useful for training.
It also helps them teach a wide array of experience from our Reserve Firefighters up to and including veteran members. Shores and boards can be easily removed from the wall to use in the classroom or tabletop discussion.
Shores are built roughly ½ scale and include all the proper nailing patterns according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers US&R Shoring Operations Guide. This is an amazing set-up, way to go Santa Clara Fire Department!
This is so fantastic!! We just had USAR in to do trench rescue and will be having Kurt MacFarlane coming in to do some high and low angle training for the fall. These boards would help tremendously in getting our department a little bit ahead for that class. What an awesome way for the guys to have examples to practice against while on shift!! Thanks for sharing!
This is a great idea applied to the kind of stuff that really needs such instruction/refreshers. Nice piece. Keep it up VES– content is always unique and relevant.
Nice props for the equipment and different systems. Someone should check the solid sole raker I believe it is upside down the wedges should be on the bottom not at the top.
Good catch Vic. Thanks.
Now that is some real solid work what an asset to his crew and department.
These are awesome. Does anyone have any regarding building construction, roof construction, etc. ?
These are great! I am trying to do something like this for my department and am putting together a parts list- any ideas?
