Martin Patino from Flower Mound (TX) sent in this slick idea to ensure a window punch is always readily available on a MVA. Every one of us has probably has a traditional window (center) punch fall apart, or freeze up at just the wrong time. This simple idea is accomplished by adding a weld bead onto a pair of cable cutters. Once the bead is on the tool, a little time with a hand file will allow the bead to take shape into a point creating the window punch.
Cable cutters are a handy tool to have on MVA’s to cut battery cables, and even defeat the stubborn wiring harness when removing a door. This simple idea makes sure you always have a functional window punch handy without adding any weight or taking up any additional room in your pocket.

How ’bout welding that on the back of this?
That’s a kick a$$ idea!
You know that duck tape probably wouldn’t be on the handle if you would of bought American:)!! Happy 4th guys and be safe!
Way to make the most used tool I carry even more useful. JUST BECAREFUL OF HOW AND WHERE YOU STORE IT!!! Channel Lock used to have something like that on the end of their 89 Rescue Tool. They took it off because so many firefighters have cut themselves or ripped gear because of it. I was lacerated by mine while it was stored in my radio pocket. I like the location where you put the point and if you store it in a cut off section of 2.5″ hose, that would probably protect your gear and skin from being cut. Usually a few solid strikes with just the plain cutters on glass will typically break it. This I know LOL!!!
Thanks for sharing your idea bro!
Check this out. It explains the duct tape.

As far as buying American, you got me there. I should have at least turner the pliers over I guess.
Great stuff Martin. At least these guys can now add a bead to their American cable cutters. Way to think outside the box. When a tool does more than one thing I normally think that it does many things marginal, but I see value in this. I have a Chinese cable cutter that will have this added to it when I’m back on shift.
Nice work Martin!
Damn good idea Martin. Wish I’d thought of that. Good job brother!!
