I have to admit, the photo got me! It wasn’t until the second and third photos that I noticed the crib. This goes back to taking a glance at a room and having a pre-conceived notion of how the room “should” be laid out. Never take anything for granted…Thanks Vincent!
It took me a few seconds to pick it out also. Good find by our brothers in Charlotte. Another thing to keep in mind on this too, outside functions. If it were the outside truck crew trying to do VES on this window, they have a small area to “drop” in to. It looks like the homeowner used wood or something else to cover up the right half of the window. The truck mentality would be to bust up that wood to get it out of the way, then drop in. (Not that there is anything wrong with that!). Consider where that material is going though. Even dropping in from the outside, it may be hard to locate the crib with all the contents you just cleared from the window covering it. Whether it is wood or a modified window A/C like some of us see, out and on the ground is better than in and on something important. Once again, great find and great site. Keep up the good work.
I guess some people don’t think this job is already tough enough. Just something else to think about while doing a search and VES ops. My head hurts.Be Safe!
Wow… good find Brothers, thanks for sharing! One more story to use to reinforce the need to “sweep” inside the window and down to the floor area with the “soft” end of the tool before sounding the floor… can you imagine if the baby was in the crib when you sounded the floor then came crashing in for VES!
You are correct the right portion of the window was covered with a sheet of plywood. Thanks for all the comments.

I remember this day well! I forgot you took a picture of this find we made! Hey everybody, this actually was found during the primary search after a lamp caught fire and smoked the place up! The resident was non-english speaking too which made matters worse!

Unfortunately with the way rent prices are climbing, situations such as these will start to appear more often. More people living in less space.
In my response area, we have seen this done a couple of times in studio type apartments. Stay safe.

This is popping up more often up our way in New England, too. We’ve got a bunch of “Section 8” condos where the “renters” are “subletting” the attached garages and storage space above them as living space for friends or family. Probably would never have known it if we didn’t stumble across it at a kitchen fire a couple years ago.
