Firefighter Matt Scallan from Escambia County Engine 19 C sent in an effective way to work smarter, not harder. Check out the Tips from the Bucket Section for a description of this time saving method of carrying the complement of hydraulic extrication equipment. We would like to thank Matt for sending in this tip. Matt has sent us a bunch of great material that we will be introducing in the near future.

just one more reason to love a six foot hook
I was thinking if you have some z-mag type stabilization tools you may use those instead of the a pike pole. I have rescue struts so that wouldn’t work in my case
We saw this on duty and immediately had to give it a try. What we found was the 48†pry bar worked just as well, and it’s a tool we may need on extrication vs. the hook. Great idea guys, thanks for the tip.
